Matchrapport Karlstad vs Gripen herr från 110709

2011-07-12 i Allmänt

Gripen vann bortamatchen med 21-13

Saturday 9th July saw Gripen Herr Team travel the long journey up to Karlstad
to play their next league game. The team was only 16 players and consisted of
some new players and a few experienced heads but was well balanced. Support
came from Hasse, Sergiu and Gareth.
The Referee had warned Gripen before the game that Karlstad was a strong
scrummaging team and that we should be careful as they were bigger and
heavier than us. However, we were quietly confident!! The 1st half began and
Gripen dominated early possession and territory. The 1st scrum came and Gripen
destroyed Karlstad with an impress show of strength turning the ball over.
The front row of Rocco Paris and Craig were too strong! This was a feature
for the rest of the match apart from one occasion. Our lineout was very good
with Slyvain showing once again how good he is in securing our own ball and
stealing Karlstad's ball.
Although Gripen dominated the early exchanges it was Karlstad who scored the
1st try which was their first attack into Gripen's half. The try was not converted.
Gripen came again and eventually scored a try from a super pass by Thomas A
to Osker who was playing his first match for the club. He took a great line and
scored under the posts. Thomas converted. Back came Karlstad and scored a
penalty. Gripen were not done yet and scored another try by Emil who picked
up the ball from Thomas as he appeared to of grounded the ball to early as there
was an extra line on the pitch. Thomas converted.
In quick succession Gripen suffered 2 injuries late in the 1st half one to GP and
one to Osker both of whom needed hospital treatment. We were down to 14 men
and Tommy came on to play his 1st match at scrum half at the ripe old age of
50. Karlstad pushed hard towards the end of the 1st half but Gripen held out with
some great defence.
The 2nd half was more scrappy from Gripen but at times we were throwing
the ball around like 7's! It was great to see and even though we had one man
less Gripen looked the more likely team to score. This proved the case as after
some good passing Erik broke free and scored under the posts. Again Thomas
converted. Karlstad seemed to drop their heads a little bit after our 3rd try and
could not break through our defence.
Late in the 2nd half however Erik was yellow carded for a strong tackle on a
Karlstad player who had encroached offside at the ruck. Now we were down
to 13 men. While we were trying to re-organise Karlstad took advantage and
scored their 2nd try which was not converted. Gripen had to raise themselves
again and they did so. Erik came back on and shortly afterwards the match was
over! We won 13 to 21! It was a very good result after we had lost 2 players to
injury and that we were down to 13 men at one point. Plus the fact Tommy had
never played scrum half and our back 3 of Filip, Martin & Osker are all very
new to their positions but played with a great enthusiasm.
The team was as follows:
Rocco, Paris, Craig, Patrik, Calle, Ofer, Herman, Slyvain, GP, Thomas A,
Osker, Emil, Erik, Filip, Martin, Tommy.
