Vinst för Herr mot Helsingör

Det blev en övertygande vinst med 0-32 i träningsmatchen mot Helsingör under lördagen.

Yesterday Gripen seniors played their second to last match of the season away to Helsingör. The Squad for the match was a mix of youngsters, old boys and experienced members and on paper looked quite strong. There was a debut game for Tim D and a return for our old boy Göran S. Most pleasing to see though was the 5 youngsters aged 17 or 18 pushing through into the seniors.

The last 2 matches we had played against Helsingör we had lost so the team was keen to rectify the situation with a win. Even though Helsingör were not at full strength we knew not to under estimate them from previous experience.

The 1st half started poorly for Gripen and Helsingör looked the hungrier side and Gripen had to withstand early pressure. After about 10 mins though the game began to swing in Gripens favour and they started to assert themselves on the match. The team was now putting together a lot of phases and were pressurising the Helsingör line. Finally Gripen had men over and Christoffer scored his first try for the club with a good run to the line. The conversion was missed but we were 5 nil up. The rest of the first quarter Gripen continued to play well and again another try was scored this time by Sebastian J who managed to get behind the posts making a easy conversion for Erik A. 12 nil up.

The second quarter was dominated again by Gripen and a fine try by Kat was scored putting Gripen 17 nil up. Gripen could have scored a few more tries but Helsingör defended well. The 3rd Quarter came and this turned out more even with Helsingör close to scoring a couple of times but Gripen defended well this time. Late in the 3rd Quarter Kat scored his second try a fine piece of individual skill saw him score in the corner.

The last quarter saw Gripen pull away even further largely down to the much improved fitness of the team. Sebastian J scored his second try and Siggy barged over from 10 yards out. The score was now 32 nil and Gripen were on a roll! However, credit to Helsingör who hung in there to final whistle not letting in any more tries.

Overall it was a good performance with a weakened side and there were some very good team play as well as individual play. Seth had many strong runs, Mann was excellant at number 7 and Christoffer had his best match for Gripen. Sebastian J also played well and has improved a lot recently. Erik was assured at number 10 and Leonardo did well at fullback and on the wing. Clemens played a good match at Hooker, the first time he has played there. I would also like to thank the Romanian contingent who all played well.

If Gripen can keep all their players and add to the squad as well, the future looks bright for the next season!
